Kids in Harmony music therapists provide an engaging and enriching environment and promote mutual respect through our music classes for young children. You can find us teaching our classes in preschools, daycare centers, home daycares, for playgroups and through various Parks and Recreation as well as Community Education programming.

The philosophy of our programming for young children is based on music therapy rather than music education. Sessions plans and techniques used are based on research and clinical practice in music therapy and related professions. While centered around music, the activities also focus on other developmental aspects. The goal is to enrich the lives of the students while fostering a lifelong love and enjoyment of music.

Our classes are appropriate for newborns through prekindergarten age. Our focus and activities are different for each stage of development and help support the children where they are currently at.

What do we do in class?

Our class activities address developmental skills through singing, movement and musical instrument play. We engage children in activities to improve academic, communication, gross and fine motor, emotional, social and musical skills. Our plans are adapted according to what is appropriate for the developmental level of each group. Our classes for infants look very different than our classes for 5 year olds, as they should be!

The learning environment is playful, nurturing and promotes self respect and respect for others. Kids in Harmony believes that using music is a beneficial way to foster a life in harmony. What we teach in our classes is transferrable to the home and classroom. We want to help parents and teachers improve their lives with the children they love through music too!

Activities are designed by our board certified music therapists. Classes are 30 minutes and include musical instrument play, movement and singing experiences. Sessions generally have a theme to help with the flow of the class and assist the child in remembering the materials learned as well as making connections in the world.

What are people saying?

“When my daycare provider informed us of the weekly on-site infant music class our initial reaction was skepticism over how much our daughter would get out of it.  I love music as does her Mom so we decided to give it a shot and it has proven to be one of the best investments we have made.  Our daughter’s natural affinity for music has increased exponentially and the improvement in her sensory development, direction following, and ability to work as part of a team speak for itself.  Best of all music class was/is hands down her favorite part of every week!!

I highly recommend Kids In Harmony’s Early Childhood Music Program based on my family’s experience.  We undoubtedly have a little music fan for life whether performing or simply enjoying it : )”
